Humidity-Proof Hair: How to Beat the Frizz This Summer

Despite popular opinion, frizz and summer don’t have to go hand in hand and humidity proof hair is actually something you can achieve at home.

To prove it, we’ve got the ultimate summer shine playbook right here: why hair gets frizzy in muggy weather, how our advanced ionic tech calms that frightful static, which anti-frizz stylers to choose for your hair type, and the exact routine you need to lock in frizz-free, smooth, glossy results.

So grab one of our frizz-fighting stylers and let's get started. With a bit of help from the VS Sassoon team, your hair is guaranteed to stay salaciously shiny this summer -  from beach to bar and back to brunch.

Why Humidity Makes Your Hair Frizz

So why does a sniff of moisture turn your sleek style into a frizz-fuelled nightmare? In humid air, water sneaks into the hair shaft, swelling it and lifting the cuticle, which makes texture go fuzzy and uneven.

Porous, curly or damaged hair soaks up even more water, so it frizzes faster and loses shape sooner. Uneven moisture and lifted cuticles boost friction, so flyaways and halo frizz show up even when hair is “dry”.

Science x Styler – How Anti‑Frizz Tech Works

VS Sassoon’s cutting-edge stylers take salon-grade tech straight from the lab to your bathroom, taming frizz while keeping your hair healthy and glossy.

VS Sassoon’s ionic technology floods your strands with negative ions to neutralise static, compress the cuticle and speed up evaporation – so you get faster dries, sleeker surfaces and way less frizz. While ceramic coating helps to deliver even, consistent heat that avoids hot spots and cuticle lift, reducing frizz while helping to protect fine or fragile hair from damage.

On selected VS Sassoon stylers, steam conditioning adds controlled vapour that hydrates and then helps seal the cuticle, leaving hair softer, shinier and smoother for longer – even when the humidity is doing the most.

The Faceoff – Ceramic vs Ionic vs Steam Conditioning

Ceramic: The strategist. A coating applied to straightening plates, barrels and hair dryer outlets that helps provide even, gentle heat and prevent damaging hot spots. Ideal for all hair types that need protection.

Ionic and Advanced Plasma Conditioning Ions: A strong contender. Best for frizz control. Great for thick, coarse, or humidity‑prone hair.

Steam conditioning: The humidity hacker. Conditioning vapour infuses moisture into the cuticle, then seals it smooth for a softer feel, extra shine, and less frizz—especially on coarse or curly hair.

Pick the Right Tools - Hair Type Tips

Fine hair: Use an Ionic hair dryer on lower heat with a concentrator to keep lift without fluff. A hot air styling brush like the Hydro Smooth 5‑in‑1 Air Styler or the Air Style Brilliance is what you need for smooth volume with control.

Thick hair: Prioritise airflow and power with an ionic hair dryer + concentrator. Use medium heat, high flow, then a cool shot. The Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic is engineered for fast, frizz‑smart drying.

Curly hair: The best anti-frizz dryer for curly hair is an Ionic dryer with a diffuser, like the Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic. Use low heat and finish with a light serum or use a hot air brush on cool to set.

Stylers & Attachments That Actually Help in Humidity

Hydro Smooth 5‑in‑1 Air Styler*
Comes with five styling heads so you can dry, smooth, shape, and polish in one tool: typically a paddle smoothing brush, a round volumising brush, a slimmer round brush for shaping, a concentrator nozzle, and a pre‑dry/smoothing head. Use the paddle for sleek, frizz‑tamed blowouts, the round brushes for bouncy root lift with sealed ends, and the concentrator to direct airflow along the cuticle.

Air Style Brilliance
Take your hair game to the next level with this ultimate 7-in-1 hot air styler for creating salon-quality blowout styles at home. Now you only need one tool to dry + style your locks. Do it all, your way – dries, smoothes, volumises, straightens, curls, shapes, texturises and creates perfect root-lift.

Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic
With magnetic pro attachments for precision and curl care: two concentrators (narrow and wide) for controlled smoothing and section work, plus a diffuser for frizz‑controlled curls and waves. Use the wide concentrator to rough‑dry fast and the narrow concentrator to polish per section, and the diffuser on low heat/low flow to preserve clumps and kill halo frizz.

Steam Straight Brilliance*
Includes a removable detangling comb that guides and aligns strands, a base station with a water reservoir for continuous steam, a refill pipette, and a heat glove. The steam vents and comb help lay the cuticle flat for long‑lasting shine and smoother results in humidity, especially after an ionic blow‑dry.

The Anti‑Humidity Blow‑Dry Routine

Universal Prep

STEP 1 - Prep - Towel‑press (don’t rub), apply heat protectant plus anti‑frizz cream or a light serum through mid‑lengths to ends.

STEP 2 - Section - Split hair into 3–4 sections so airflow and tension stay consistent.

STEP 3 - Nozzle angle - Attach a concentrator; aim from roots to ends, always pointing down the hair shaft, following your brush.

STEP 4 - Heat/speed - Work with low to medium heat and low to medium airflow until about 90% dry, then hit a cool shot on each section to seal the cuticle.

STEP 5 - Finish - Mist a humidity‑resistant spray or smooth a pea‑sized serum from mid‑lengths down; avoid roots to keep lift.

Curly and Defined

  1. Rough‑dry to 50% with the Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic + wide concentrator, keeping the nozzle 10–15 cm away and aiming downward to align cuticles.

  2. Switch to the diffuser on low heat/low airflow. Cup sections at the ends and lift towards the roots; diffuse roots first for lift, then hover through mids/ends without breaking clumps.

  3. Optional refinement: Use the Hydro Smooth 5‑in‑1 Air Styler or Air Style Brilliance on cool to set fringe/face‑frame or to lightly smooth the crown without flattening.

  4. Finish: Scrunch in a drop of serum, but leave roots product‑light for volume. If needed, a final cool shot with the diffuser locks in definition.

Straight and Sleek

  1. Power‑dry to 80–90% with the Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic + wide concentrator, directing airflow down the shaft as you brush.

  2. Switch to the narrow concentrator for polish passes, keeping tension with a paddle or round brush, then cool shot every section.

  3. Shine‑lock: Run the Steam Straight Brilliance in slow, even passes on fully dry hair to add sheen. Avoid over‑flattening the roots to keep movement.

  4. Finish: A micro‑mist of humidity spray or one pump of serum on ends only.

Wavy

  1. Rough‑dry to 70% with the Digital Sensor Luxe Airsonic + wide concentrator, brushing downward for alignment.

  2. Swap to Hydro Smooth 5‑in‑1 Air Styler or Air Style Brilliance. Use the paddle brush to smooth mids/ends, then the round brush at the crown and face‑frame to build soft bends and root lift. Finish with the cool setting to set the shape.

  3. Optional: For extra polish on the outer layer, do one or two quick Steam Straight Brilliance passes on the surface only (skip the under‑layers to keep movement).

  4. Finish: Light serum through mids/ends; scrunch once to bring back bend, then hands‑off.

VS Sassoon Anti-Frizz Tips

  • Angle matters: Keep the nozzle parallel to the strand and pointed down the cuticle to encourage smoothness – never across the shaft.

  • 90% rule: Stop heat at “just dry”, then cool shot each section; most frizz creeps in during the over‑dry zone.

  • Product pacing: Apply cream before you dry, then serum afterwards, as it slows down drying and attracts moisture.
