Blow drying hair can be a challenge for even the most skilled of us! Feeling like a hot mess because you can’t blow dry your hair with a brush is not something we want to deal with before we’ve even had our morning coffee, are we right?

A hot air styler can be used on all hair types, but it’s especially great for thin or fine-haired types. This is because the blowing hot air delivers major volume while the brush provides control and style, making the hair flowing and shiny.

It’s great if you want to create a smooth blow-dry look but hate poker-straight styles. Instead, a hot air styler is typically used to smooth or add a gentle curl with volume to straight hair and unlike a straightener, it gives great volume, lift and body. You’ll soon be using it as your hair curling brush, its that good.

In this tutorial, we show you how to easily use a rotating hot air brush to dry, style, and create va va volume for a salon quality blow dry finish! 

How To Use A Hot Brush for Volume

Here’s our quick reference guide you can use for later, and down below are all the steps you need to follow when learning how to use a hot air brush to volumise your hair.

Before you start styling with the rotating brush, dry hair to about 80% dry. You can either use the Prep & Dry concentrator attachment that comes with your styler or a hair dryer.

1. First, take a section from above the temple. Twist and clip on top of the head. Now divide the bottom section of what’s left into two sections and clip the middle section. The hair left is your first section.

2. Take a hair section around the width and depth of the brush head. Place the styler under the section of hair, close to the roots and brush through to remove tangles. Move the brush through the hair section towards the ends. As you reach the end of the hair section, start to rotate the brush away from your head by pressing and holding the appropriate rotation direction switch.

TIP: Make sure you resist the tension of the rotation pulling the brush downwards this will assist with smoothing, adding volume and shine to the hair.

3. For added volume and lift allow the brush to rotate, winding the brush up to head allow to heat. Then activate the cool setting to create a longer lasting result.  Release by pressing the rotating button and rolling out. When the section is dry, activate the cool setting to lock in the style. Repeat this around all sections of the hair.

4. For added volume on top of the head, direct the hair back by rotating the brush towards the head and hold the brush close to the roots for a few seconds.

TIP: For styling your fringe, attach the 40mm brush attachment and allow the brush to rotate through the hair to create shape and shine.
