How to: Formal Updo Side Bun

1. Prepare your hair by using a heat protectant. Now you can start curling your hair. Follow these steps to achieve the prep for the updo:

  • To curl hair, hold the curler with the clasp open and facing forward, take a section of hair and starting 2 -3 centimeters from the root, wrap it around the curler.
  • Hold it in the hair for approximately 5 to 10 seconds depending on your hair type and condition.
  • Repeat until all the hair is curled. See our tutorial for more details on how to curl hair the right way if you need some tips and help with your curling technique.

2. Create a side part then separate the top section splitting from temple to crown and clip up on top of the head.

3. Brush back into a low, side ponytail and secure with a hair tie.

4. Secure a second hair tie around two thirds down from the base of the ponytail.

5. Place the bobby pin through the bottom hair tie loop the hair under and secure it into the hair tie at the base of the ponytail to create a soft bun.

6. Smooth the front section with your fingers. Loosely sweep it to the side and back securing it with a bobby pin into the ponytail.

7. For the extra stylish finish add a decorative clasp.

And that’s how to create a simple yet gorgeous formal updo side bun.
