5 Common Winter Hair Problems & How To Fix Them

Now that we are into the harsh colder months, our hair will start to suffer. Soon, the shine and bounce may disappear and our scalp may start to flake just a tad.

You’ll start feeling like you have to chop all your hair off or, even worse, hide it under a hat.

There really is no need for that! Here are the 4 most common winter hair problems and how to fix them simply at home, so you don’t have to compensate beautiful hair all year around.

1. Not drying your hair properly

Never ever put your hair up when it’s dripping wet and damp! That is a hair sin that we hope no one is committing! Damp hair can cause breakage, dandruff and split ends. Even drying your hair with a towel can cause damage to your locks, which is a common mistake when it comes to drying hair.

Pro tip: Use a cotton tee-shirt to remove any excess water from your hair. Then use our digital dryer which will carefully set itself to dry your hair at an optimal temperature to protect your hair.

2.  Frizzy hair

Frizzy hair during the winter months is common! It occurs because cold air contains less moisture than warm air, which then dries your hair out making it weak and brittle. To combat this classic winter hair problem and prevent the frizziness, you need to put the moisture back into the locks.

Here are few ways to help frizzy hair:

  • Use a hair dryer with a high ionic conditioning feature like the 3Q Brushless Digital Dryer to eliminate static, trapping moisture and reducing the frizz!
  • Use a hair mask. Look for hair treatments that have ingredients that are high in proteins (your hair is full of these so you need to replenish them), have jojoba oil (great for moisturising the hair and body), shea butter (great for split ends) and lactic acids (this moisturises and repairs damaged hair too).
  • Go for a frizz-control shampoo and conditioner duo. The hair mask is what you do once a week, but you should also maintain the frizz during the week with a great shampoo & conditioner that helps tame the locks.
  • Apply a great leave-in conditioner in between washes so you can keep your hair looking sleek and smooth.

3. Dull and lifeless hair

Frizzy hair will likely turn into dull and lifeless hair. Because your locks become brittle, they will lack life, shine and bounce. Concentrating on bringing moisture back into the hair is going to help your hair recover from the cold weather.

Here are a few tips for dull and lifeless hair:

  • Be confident in the health of your hair and bring out it’s natural shine and strength using a styler with a Keratin infusion.
  • Stay hydrated! Your body requires water on a daily basis to keep it well hydrated.
  • Wash your hair every now and then. Washing your hair daily can strip its natural oils that are needed to keep your hair healthy.
  • Use a silk pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases can create friction and hair to break.
  • Make a honey home remedy. Using a wide-tooth comb, apply raw honey to your hair from the roots to the tips. Leave for 30 mins and wash off with lukewarm water. Honey seals the moisture in and restores shine and bounce.

4. Dry scalp

Feeling like your scalp is a little bit dry during the colder months. In winter, your scalp tends to get drier and itchier due to the lack of moisture in the air. This can lead to dandruff and scalp irritation. Don’t think about wearing black on these days!

To maintain your dry scalp:

  1. Heat up a tablespoon of olive oil or coconut oil (cold pressed & organic is the best).
  2. Squeeze half a lemon into the mixture and mix well.
  3. Apply to the scalp only.
  4. Leave for 20-30 mins.
  5. Rinse with shampoo & conditioner.

The coconut oil and/or olive oil will help nourish and moisturise your hair. The lemon juice has properties that are antifungal and antibacterial which are great for helping fight a dry scalp.
