The Best 2019 Facial Hair Trends

The best 2019 facial hair trends

What better way to take 2019 by the scruff of the neck then with facial hair that will complete your look.

VSforMen have teamed up with lads styling expert Jules Tognini to guide you through how you can utilise our great range of trimming tools to achieve a fresh take on your face.

He predicts the best facial hair trends this year are the goatee, the shorter long beard and the slacker shadow!

The Goatee Makes A Comeback!

The ’90s are back and the goatee is leading the charge. In research carried out by VSforMen, 69% of Australians voted the goatee as the grooming trend that they would most like to see make a comeback* (though the humble mullet was an honourable mention).

This style is great for any face shape and the goatee is one of the more manageable moustaches to maintain.

Here’s how to trim your goatee and maintain it:

  1. Make sure that your skin and beard are dry.
  2. Use the X3 PRO on a 0 setting to remove all hair in the cheeks and underneath the neckline, leaving your moustache and soul patch. Make sure you work against the grain.
  3. You can then trim your soul patch and moustache to your desired length and shape, rocking either a clean cut look or more natural, lived in finish.
  4. Tap the X3 PRO along your top lip to remove excess hair curving over into your mouth.
  5. Repeat this process every few days depending on how clean cut you are looking to be.

Pro Tip: Apply beard oil and moustache wax to keep your goatee looking sharp!

The Shorter Long Beard

For lads with good beard coverage that want to keep things slick rather than bushy like a bushranger, they’ll be happy to hear a more controlled beard is back in fashion.

With sharp lines along the cheeks to bring out the jawline and more length through the chin for a fuller look, you can have the benefits of facial hair without your face shape being lost under a tone of fur.

To achieve this look, you will need around 1 to 2 months of facial hair growth.  Now follow these simple steps:

Start with a dry skin and beard.

  1. Use the X3 PRO on a 0 setting to remove all hair in the cheeks above the beard line and Work down against the grain to avoid irritation.
  2. Backcomb your beard to make sure you get all of those stray hairs.
  3. Set the X3 PRO to a 3 and trim the sides of beard, working in a downwards motion. Leave length in your chin.
  4. Proceed to trim around your moustache, you can set the trimmer to a 2 for this part.
  5. Then tap along your top lip to remove excess hair curving over into your mouth
  6. To fade your beard to your neck, set the groomer to a 1 and work from your neck up into your beard.

Pro Tip: Repeat this process every few days depending on how clean cut you are looking to be

The slacker shadow

The Slacker Shadow (AKA: Stubble)

The style that never goes out of style. Stubble allows for those who can’t grow a fuller beard to say in the facial hair game. It’s also an appropriate look (if maintained well and kept neat) to wear to more serious occasions or professional spaces like the office! It’s even a favoured look by the ladies! So lads pick up your groomer and let’s get this 3 O’clock shadow underway.

The best tool to get keep your stubble look well maintained is a tool like the Beard Designer. Try these simple steps to achieve the slacker shadow:

  1. As always, start with a dry beard.
  2. Set The Beard Designer to a 2 and work in a circular motion on your cheeks, chin and neck, which will maintain the length of hair for a more natural look.
  3. To trim around your moustache, set the trimmer to a 1. Then tap it along your top lip to remove any excess hair curving over into your mouth.
  4. Use the finishing trimmer to remove all hair in the cheeks above the beard line and below the neckbeard line.
  5. Repeat this process every 1-2 days to keep that stubble looking strong and sharp.

Pro tip: Apply beard oil and moustache wax to keep your short & slick beard game strong!
