Vidal Sassoon (1928-2012) revolutionised the hair industry with his forward-thinking techniques and innovative styles, inspiring trends that will endure for decades to come.
From humble beginnings in London’s East End to the A-list streets of Beverly Hills, Sassoon’s unique perspective on the art of hairdressing is celebrated today in global salons, academies and multiple product lines.
After an apprenticeship under a renowned London hairdresser, Sassoon opened his first salon at 108 New Bond Street in 1954.
“The first day we had about three clients,” he said in the 2010 documentary Vidal Sassoon: The Movie. “But I made up my mind then that if I was going to be in hairdressing long-term, I wanted to change things.”

As his reputation grew, so did his showmanship and passion. He elevated hair to the level of fashion – laying the blueprint of modern hairdressing and changing the way women looked, forever.
Influenced by the Bauhaus movement, Sassoon’s taste for strong, clean lines and shapes influenced the hairstyles he’d become famous for: the Five-Point cut, the Geometric Bob and the Pixie. These low maintenance, modernled towe now know as
Thanks to Sassoon’s vision, entire hair care product lines have been built around this philosophy of empowering women to take control and get salon professional results at home.
