Drying Tips for Perfect Natural Curls

To achieve beautiful curls when drying you will need a hairdryer with a diffuser attachment. The hair diffuser is designed to reduce and spread the airflow from the hairdryer preventing the curl from being ‘blown out’ or flattened and also to reduce any surface frizz and create more volume in your curl.

A hairdryer with a diffuser attachment will also make it possible to create more curl in hair that is wavy or has a very loose curl as you can cup the hair in the diffuser to reduce the weight of the hair as you dry it, preventing the curl being pulled out.

  • When working with a diffuser, always set the speed setting to a low speed setting for best results and select a heat setting suitable for your hair type.
  • Use your hand to scrunch your hair when you need more curl and then follow with the diffuser. Make sure you scrunch the hair and not rub it as this will create frizz rather than curl.
  • If your hair is fairly curly, handling it less is better as this will reduce frizz. Simply use the diffuser to hold and cup the curls.
  • For added volume turn your head to the side or upside down and let your hair fall into the hair diffuser so that it cups the hair and then push it closer to the head, supporting the weight of your hair.
  • Never over dry your hair. Leaving a little moisture in the hair is a good idea when diffuse drying.
