Straighten It: best fashion hairstyles you can do at home

Straighten It

What is the best way to straighten hair?

  1. Apply a heat protecting or thermal iron spray or smooth styling product to your clean hair before you dry it as this will help you achieve a better straightened finish.
  2. For quick and simple hair drying, begin by rough drying your hair with the Academy Tools Dryer and then once about 80% dry use the 'wrap drying' technique to smooth and add volume.
  3. Before you begin straightening ensure your hair is 100% completely dry and comb it through to prevent knots and tangles.
  4. Divide your hair into 4 sections (2 back and 2 front) using hair clips for easy styling and further sectioning. At the front make your parting at the top of the sections.
  5. Starting at the nape with one of the back sections, take a horizontal section no wider than the plate of your straightener. Insert the straightener at the base of this section near the scalp but not on the scalp to avoid burning yourself.
  6. Clamp the plates of the straightener over the hair and slide the it slowly and evenly along each section as you work keeping the straightener flat. Slightly round the straightener off through the ends for a more polished finish.
  7. Repeat this through each of the 4 sections until you have straightened all of your hair.
  8. To finish use a few drops of smoothing serum or gloss rubbed through the palms of your hands and stroked over the surface to control any fly-aways.
