The New Textured Plait

VS Style - The New Textured Plait

"A new big look at Fashion Week in London and again at Milan was the open pulled out plait worn down one side of the face. My version of this is a little more sophisticated as I have taken it to the next stage and done a hair up look.

0ne thing I want to emphasise though is that just because it’s an up do, it’s not just a night time look. It can also be a strong day time look if you add texture.

If you’ve got thick hair, use the Academy Tools Dryer with a strong airflow and high wattage option, trust me you can go up to 2200W. High power dries the hair faster,  minimising hair damage which is important if you want salon standard results.

The Academy Tools dryer has many great features like ceramic tourmaline technology for even heat distribution so protecting the hair. Two concentrator nozzles; a 90mm ultra slim concentrator nozzle for controlled, smooth salon finishing and styling of larger sections and 70mm for precise styling.
Concentrators really are the key to producing the same results at home", Emiliano Vitale, eSalon, editorial and multi-award winning stylist.

Steps to creating this look at home:

  1. Dry your hair using the wrapping technique. "Wrap drying has become the new way to dry for stylists". This is when you direct the airflow along the lengths of your hair whilst brushing it in multiple directions, 'wrapping' it around the scalp to build volume.
  2. When your hair is dry, create a random parting in the front section of your hair and start a plait across the top of your head. Once your plait gets to the nape, pick up the rest of your hair and secure into a ponytail with an elastic.
  3. Separate the ponytail into two sections and do a 'school girls' braid to the ponytailed hair. This gives you the foundation for this style.
  4. Loosen or pull open the sections of the plait to the degree that you like but the more open and less like a finished plait the better.
  5. The final pin-up again is easy. Twist the two plaits up and secure the ends using bobby pins. Then pull out as many bits of hair from the plaits as you like, to create that raw look, fabulous.

"What I love about it, is that you can play with it. Make it formal or more casual depending on what you do and how much you pull out from the plait".
